Hi there, I am benchmarking notice periods for my company and would like to know what everyone uses for notice periods for senior members of staff (management and above). Is it market practice to have one month for below management staff, and 3 months (or more) for senior staff? I have heard that it's not unusual for directors to have a 6 month notice period. Any advice would be appreciated. Carmen Arico. |

Dear Carmen, A benchmark of 1 month for junior staff, 3 months for management is sensible and in my experience in line with the market. 6 months is often the norm for Directors and 12 months for CEO's. You have to take a view on the job's value and difficulty of replacing people. It is in order to have a longer notice period for a key worker regardless of level. The other side of the coin is of course that the longer the notice period, the costlier a dismissal is. Hope this helps John Stacey |
