Removing a benefit PP 15/05/2008 20:31

We have recently purchased a new business by way of a share take over. We employ 50 staff of which 2 live in a flat that the company owns. We are selling this flat and the two staff have been informed. We do not charge them for this benefit but it is quite clearly worth quite a bit to them financially as finding similar accommodation in the area would cost them quite a bit. They both have offer letters from their original start date confirming the accommodation as part of their package.

During the consultation process that we are currently going through they have both asked what compensation they will get in return for thir loss. My view is that we should offer something but my seniors are not sure. I have been given some conflicting advice, we dont have to offer anything legally as long as we consult and give the relevant notice or you must offer a compensation package of sorts.

Any thoughts appreciated.
